The Luther House was built as a monastery from 1504 onwards. Martin Luther lived here since his arrival in Wittenberg in September 1508, at first as a monk, then from 1525 onwards with his familiy. After the Reformer‘s death, the building was used in different ways. In 1883 the house was opened as a museum. Today, it is the greatest museum for reformation history worldwide.

The exhibition gives an impression of the life and work of the Reformer. Exhibits of special significance are the pulpit, from which he preached, the Ten-Commandments-Table by Lucas Cranach and one of Luther‘s monastic habits. The centerpiece of the tour through the house is the Luther Room, that has been kept in its original condition.
